We are pleased to announce that our inaugural Fundraising Dinner & Auction, at the Holiday Inn, Kingston, to mark our 25th Anniversary, has raised £25,462
Every penny of this money will go towards continuing to meet the needs of the most vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers we support.
It was a fantastic and inspiring evening as over 200 people turned out to support us.
Sanja Djeric Kane, Director RAK, said “in a week in which the politics of fear, hate and division seem to be winning all over the world, I can’t tell you how privileged I feel to be sitting in this room, because people like you give me faith”
During the evening we heard inspiring words from our guest speakers Lord Alf Dubs and Rex Bloomstein and tributes to the work of RAK.
The most impactful voice came from RAK client Bilal, who fled Syria in 2015. He said that RAK had been his lifeline helping him to adjust to a new life and encouraging him to study. Since the event, Bilal has started working for Time Out within his area of expertise. We congratulate him on this success and the new chapter in his life in the UK!
We had amazing support from donors for our auction and bidding was competitive and raised an amazing £8,200 towards the final total.
So to everyone who donated to our auction, bought a ticket to the event, bid in the auction or gave their time to help organise the event we say a huge THANK YOU.
A special thank you goes to our Fiona Boult, without whom, the dinner would not have happened.
Our allotment has been looking much better recently and that is due to a great team of Santander employees who spent a day with us back in July helping to dig it over and prepare the beds.
Rachel and her team of colleagues from Santander Kingston and Santander Walton On Thames joined up with Jenny (RAK) for a day of hard but rewarding work.
Great to hear that the Santander team felt the day was a worthwhile joint venture.
Jonathan, Branch Director Kingston said, “Fantastic cause to be involved in and really shows how a little hard work and taking a few office people out of their natural environment can make a difference for those less fortunate”
Carl ,Branch Director Walton-on–Thames said, “‘A feel good proud day’ -Great to be a part of the Santander Kingston Region team who with much hard work and spirit created a safe environment to help and support refugees trying to accustom to life in the UK. Thanks for the opportunity"
Here is what it looked like back in November 2015
And after some tender loving care from Rachel and her team from this is how it looked in the summer.
This really encouraged our clients to get involved and start growing vegetables, so thank you to all at Santander who helped to make this possible.
