Main objectives of the role:
This volunteering opportunity provides consecutive interpreting support to RAK clients when attending appointments and/or sessions. This could include appointments with solicitors & advisers and information sessions or training. It is most likely to be supporting RAK clients in one to one session’s with advice professionals.
Responsibilities/ Skills:
-To clearly interpret for our clients in Immigration, Advocacy and Advice appointments.
-To sign up to the strict code of conduct required for the consecutive interpretation in terms of confidentiality
-To be competent linguistically to interpret English to other languages with emphasis on the specialist language associated with the process of seeking asylum.
-To have excellent cultural awareness and act in a respectful manner towards RAK clients.
-To be able to work flexibly and with ease in a busy working office environment.
-To be able to act impartially at all times and within the Refugee Action Kingston, Interpreters Agreement.
-To be emotionally resilient
-To maintain professional boundaries with our clients.
Training:
-To attend the RAK Induction
-To attend relevant training sessions and courses subsequent to that.
-To attend supervision meetings and group meetings as required
Hours / Days / Location:
1 day per week (flexible) at Siddeley House or occasionally at Piper Hall in Norbiton.
